Bay Baseball Bites - Oakland Edition # 5

With the 2021 regular season winding down it is time to go all-in on the food truck experience at the Coliseum. On this night, I double-downed and sampled two of the three trucks at the stadium. My options of food trucks on this given night at the ballpark were the Curveball Slider Truck, Marley’s Treats, and iLava Hawaiian Barbecue. So obviously, the decision to get some desert at the ballpark this night was already made for me. My real choice was what my main course was going to be and I chose to sample some sliders from the Curveball Slider Truck.

Curveball Slider Truck

When there is a food truck at the Coliseum that’s name references baseball, you bet I couldn’t help myself in giving this one a try! (Neither could my boyfriend so you’ll get to see what both of us got.)

I decided to keep it simple and order the “Fastball.” The Fastball is two beef sliders with ketchup (which I passed on), grilled onions, and offering cheese as optional (which I absolutely had to have). Now maybe you are thinking that sliders are small, that you usually see them on a menu served as a set of three, and that what I ordered was so simple that these couldn’t be good or filling enough as a meal but they definitely were. Check out the picture below and you will see what I am talking about.

These were hefty little sliders and I got the simplest slider offering on the menu. My only complaint, which is very minor, is that I wished that it had more grilled onions. But I also just love grilled onions and me wanting more of them is a common occurrence.

When I was reviewing the menu, I knew which sliders my boyfriend was going to offer even before he decided. He went with the “Curveball” which was two beef sliders with IPA braised pork belly, American cheese, grilled onions, chipotle mayo, and house-made barbecue sauce. If my simple sliders weren’t inspiring enough for you, I bet these ones will be.

We were both satisfied with our choices from the Curveball Slider Truck and would absolutely come back and revisit this food truck. I am curious to try the “Screwball” which are their fried chicken sandwich sliders. We will have to wait and see when this truck gets its turn back in the rotation after being the starting pitcher this evening as to when it will pitch again while I am at the ballpark!

Marley’s Treats

My takeaway from Marley’s Treats is that it was so delicious that I forgot to take a picture of what I got to show you! There were a lot of different dessert options to choose from at this truck so even though you may be thinking a dessert themed food truck might be limiting, this one definitely is not. Marley’s Treats is a Filipino fusion bakery so they have lots of ube treats to choose from (cupcakes, mini cheesecakes, and more), while also offering cupcakes, ice cream, and other treats that I cannot even remember that were on the menu.

I wasn’t feeling too adventurous this evening so I got a couple of the cookies & cream and birthday cake flavored cupcakes. Like I already said, I was too excited about these cupcakes that I do not have a picture of them to share with you, but check out this picture from the Marley’s Treats Instagram feed to get an idea of what I was working with. These cupcakes do have a lot of frosting on them, but it wasn’t super sweet and felt relatively balanced with the cake itself. This is definitely a food truck that I will seek out again to satisfy my sweet tooth!
