Baseball and Bread Bowls

When you envision a night out at the ballpark you usually think of nice warm weather with a little bit of a breeze and a beautiful baseball sky sunset (#baseballsky is a real thing that MLB features a lot on their Twitter account, so check that out if you aren’t familiar with the topic). However, when you go to a lot of baseball games throughout the season you quickly learn that you don’t always get great big baseball sky nights and sometimes you wish you brought a blanket to snuggle into once the game gets past the third inning. On the less glamourous and very cold nights at the ballpark I always opt for a warm and cozy meal. Which brings me to this edition of Tastes of T-Mobile Park – the Ivar’s Clam Chowder Bread Bowl.

Ivar’s is a PNW classic. They’ve had some classic marketing campaigns that hold in the memories of long-time Seattleites. They have great seafood, whether you opt for one of their fast serve options or their sit-down restaurants. And the place I most commonly get my Ivar’s is at the ballpark. Ivar’s has been a part of the Mariners food scene for as long as I can remember and their clam chowder is the best thing to get on a cold night at the ballpark.

Chowder is the perfect cozy meal to warm you up on a cold night so you can hang in there when the game gets long and the night gets colder. I stand behind that the only way to get chowder at the ballpark is in a bread bowl. The bread helps balance out the extra salty bits of chowder and you get more food to snack on this way. And you get so much chowder that it spills over the sides of the bread bowl and it makes you feel like you get so much more than if you just got your chowder in a plain and contained cup.I have to note It was very disappointing that last season there were no bread bowls at the ballpark and I am very appreciative that they are finally back this season. So, if you’re at the ballpark this season on a cold night (or any other time that chowder is calling your name) show your appreciation of the bread bowl and make sure to get your chowder in one this season.
