Celebrating Opening Day⚾
I absolutely love going to baseball games. I grew up going to games and once baseball season starts in Seattle you can really start to believe that summer will eventually be back soon (despite getting some snow here just two or so weeks before). This year the Mariners home opener was versus the Boston Red Sox, who just won the World Series the previous season. With that, there was a lot of excitement to see this brand new Mariners team (it's true, it's pretty much an entirely new team because of all of the off-season trades) face off against the team that would be receiving their championship rings at their own home opener about a week later. There was a lot of excitement for whoever you were rooting for - but most importantly everyone was excited that baseball was back.
The home opener for the Mariners this year had some added excitement around it because the ballpark got a new look and a new name. What was Safeco Field has now turned into T-Mobile Park, so now there's a lot of pink signage you will see around (and things like T-Mobile customer express lines into the stadium).
To add to the excitement, Edgar Martinez had gotten the call recently that he was going to go into the Baseball Hall of Fame this summer (finally!) and got to throw out the first pitch of the game. There's a huge banner out in the outfield now that displays the countdown to Cooperstown that you can't miss.Plus...another added bit of fun to Opening Day was a short concert by Macklemore in the 'Pen. And my, oh my was that a fun show!
All of that and that's not even anything about the game itself, the beautiful weather in Seattle that day, or any of the delicious ballpark food I ate. There was so much going on and so much fun had, this only scratches the surface of the amount of fun Opening Day was.
If you have not been to an Opening Day in MLB mark your calendars to do it next year. I promise it will be a fun experience that you'll enjoy even if you aren't a huge baseball fan because there's more to experience than just a normal baseball game - it's the fresh feeling of joy and hope every city feels once baseball comes back. ⚾
