Bay Baseball Bites - Oakland Edition # 7

During the last homestand of the 2021 Oakland A’s season I knew I had to visit the food trucks on Championship Plaza one last time. The game that I attended was on Saturday, September 25th and the selection of food trucks was Golden Gate Gyro, El Gran Taco Loco, and Smoothielicious.

Now these were all food trucks that I had seen around the ballpark a time or two but had not personally gotten food from any of them. This game was a day game with a 1:07pm start time so my appetite wasn’t in the same place that it usually was when I had visited this ballpark earlier in the season. Based on every other experience that I have had with the food trucks on Championship Plaza I knew I probably would not be disappointed by any of them so it was determining what food mood I was in for what to sample this day. I ended up going with Smoothielicious after some thoughtful consideration.

Sipping on Smoothielicious

What helped me decide on Smoothielicious definitely was the fact that a stadium employee that saw me scoping out the food options and the menu at this truck while he was waiting for his order and then once he received his order, he turned towards me and said “You know this looks good,” as he then walked off and went about the rest of his day. That man was correct. His order did look good and I had some faith that this wasn’t his first time having Smoothielicious, so that made the decision for me to give this food truck a try.

Strawnana Sunrise from Smoothielicious

I ordered the Strawnana Sunrise, which is a classic strawberry-banana smoothie (my personal go-to flavor.) Loved that this was a giant smoothie since the price point for this was coming in a bit higher than I would have guessed ($10.50). These smoothies definitely are not going to win for a value-pick from the food truck offerings this season but it is quite different from anything else offered on the plaza and was undeniably refreshing. The fact that this was so different - light, fresh, fruity, and refreshing - from anything else that I have gotten at any ballpark this season is a complete standout on its own. Plus this smoothie held together pretty well (meaning it did not just melt instantaneously) as it continued to sit in between my sips on a sunny day at the ballpark.

Additionally, I noticed that Smoothielicious offers mini donuts on their menu and decided to give those a try as well (what? I cannot resist more sugar and the opportunity to add carbs to any meal - I am extremely weak for carbs.) However they were just completely, utterly fine. I ate some of them and passed the rest of them off to my boyfriend to enjoy (he seemed to be a bit more impressed by them than me, but still not rave-worthy in his eyes.) I will say that I did get a solid serving of mini donuts. I would have been more disappointed if I had only gotten like six of them, but I probably got closer to two dozen of them in my order. The mini donuts were fine but definitely something I will pass on in the future and satisfy my carbs/sweet tooth with some other food offering.

Final takeaway, sipping on a Smoothielicious smoothie was a great and refreshing way to soak up some of my final moments at the Coliseum in 2021.
